Maps+ Review: A New Perfect Navigation App For iOS?
Maps+ app is a rather fresh navigation app on the App Store. Unlike its big brothers like Apple Maps and Google Maps, it was launched only in 2011 and still gets updates to become a good one. Will the Maps+ become a next top giant in a world of navigation apps? Let’s try to guess it in this Maps+ review.
Functionality – 5/5
There are so many map apps on the market now, and it challenges the developers to create a good product.
Maps + app by IZE Ltd. isn’t a giant in a world of navigation and guiding apps, but here are some reasons to pay attention to:
- Customizable bookmarks;
- Location reminders;
- Syncs easily with other iOS apps;
- Import and export of GPX files.
However, Maps + app functional kit also provides default options like the search for a particular location, traffic conditions, customizable map view (satellite, standard, 3D).
Design – 3/5
Once you get the Maps + app on your smartphone or tablet, you should get rid of other map apps. Why? Unfortunately, its design looks so familiar, you can easily get confused about whether you use Maps +, Google or Apple maps.
Still, the app looks pleasant, it's bright and minimalistic. Just like the Apple Maps app or Google Maps, it also has a Search bar at the top and navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen.
All of these design features can make you think that its a Google + Apple maps mixed copycat. But is it really? Well, we will never know.
Usability – 5/5
Like I’ve mentioned before, Maps+ app offers you a basic map navigation kit plus more. While developers didn’t really think the design out, Maps+ due to its functions can become your favorite maps app.
Maps+ app offers you to create bookmarks with sightseeing or your favorite places to go. The Bookmarks pins can be customized with colors and labels and you can choose quickly a needed location from the Bookmarks section or find it on a map. What I mostly like about the app is Reminders setting. You can create a reminder and it will notify you once you go to the needed location or arrive here.
Another great feature about the Maps+ app is that it really can handle a great amount of data. You can create up to 100 bookmarks and more than a 1000 reminders and the app will still run smoothly.
Cross-platform use – 1/5
This app was designed for iOS only. It’s compatible with most Apple products including iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Once you’ve decided to get it, make sure your gadget runs iOS 10.1 or later for a proper work of the application.
Actually, the Maps+ available as a demo version of the app. If you want to experience the whole power of the Maps+, you have to buy the full version for $6.99 to unlock limitations, or you can just get rid of the advertisements paying only $2.99.
The Bottom Line
Unlike its massive fellows, Maps+ app doesn’t provide voice requests. This could be helpful for users who drive, so they wouldn’t have to use their phones while being on a steering wheel. It also doesn’t have any turn-by-turn directions and voice GPS navigations, which makes it impossible to use it safely while driving.Collapse
The Maps+ app is nothing new. It offers the same function kit as the majority of other navigation apps on the market. But still, there’s nothing wrong with this app. It works well and runs smoothly on iOS devices. Yet, everyone has their own tastes and to decide whether you like the Maps+ or not, you should better give it a try. Download the Maps+ on your Apple gadget to see if this app can really claim its place on the top.
