Graphics — 4.5/5
Plants vs. Zombies game rocks that famous goofy art style the debut game got famous for. There are new arenas, in which you'll travel to:
- Pirate Seas;
- Ancient Egypt;
- Wild West when Garfield (President, not the cat) was around.
And others. Apart from atmospheric details, each World has a set of decorations that may bring a strategic advantage when used correctly. Just look closer to find them!
Both Plants and Zombies have distinct and catchy personalities. Most of the herbs are pissed off or grumpy about the undead intruders. Meanwhile, zombies never fail to crack a smile with their brain-dead charm. You'll see a piano-corpse who can summon dancing cowboys, Pharaoh wearing a sarcophagus like a jacket, giant Cat Mummy, etc.
Gameplay — 5/5
Our Zombies vs. Plants review guarantees that the classic gameplay hasn't been butchered. Your objective is to stop the zombie invasion. At whatever cost. With whatever plants. No matter how grumpy they may seem about having to be recruited.
Carefully form the defense lines and manage your N1 resource — Solar Energy. Plants have different types of attacks. E.g., Peashooters riddle zombies with armor-piercing peas. Bonk Choy is a kung-fu master and deals impressive damage in melee combat. Wall-nut goes nuts with electricity attacks and can hit multiple targets at once.
Each arena is a unique battlefield. And its landscape can make you victorious even faster. For instance, in the sea level you can dispatch zombies in a single hit by making them fall into the water. In the Wild West world getting a hold of the minecart will allow more mobility for a far-shooting plant.
Controls — 4/5
Plants vs. Zombies 2 full game isn't too hard to control. Setting the defense lines is done via tapping. However, in the later levels you will need to organize the grumpy fruit-vegetable army much faster. And this creates a problem: in the chaos you risk to misplace a plant thus ruining your Masterplan.
Replay Value — 5/5
Plants vs. Zombies 2 strategy game is that title you will be returning to again and again. It has everything you need: a strategic challenge, a variety of tactics, amazing visuals and a great sense of humor. It has IAPs, but they don't annoy you too much and aren't obligatory to have fun.
The Bottom Line
Plants vs. Zombies 2 free to play game is a marvelous title to have. It's fun and flamboyant, but its gameplay will really make you calculate each step. It has an upbeat tempo but doesn't turn into a fatiguing mess. Even years after it's as fresh as it was.Collapse
